MTB Outlaws Rides for all

Whether you’re a seasoned DH competitor or a casual commuter – we’ve got something for you and your family. Our rides are typically designed to suit a rider of a certain style or ability, but ultimately anyone can attend any ride. It’s up to you to decide when and where you’d like to attend. Riding with MTB Outlaws is FREE, all we ask is that you register with us – strictly for your safety and security. Read ‘how it works’ below.

Our primary hunting ground is Sherwood Pines and the neighbouring forests and cycle trails. Some routes are more aggressive and some are relaxed and fun for the family. We encourage everyone to get in touch and find the best ride that’s right for them. We’re experienced and know the lay of the land, if you’re concerned about the description, always contact the Ride Leader in advance. We ride bi-weekly, take a look at the descriptions below.

Sign up to attend a ride via our Facebook page. Always read the ride description and our terms and conditions before attending a new ride for the first time.

Sherwood Shred

Our Ride Leaders have a catalogue of trails that wind and sweep through the local single track trails. Come and see the hidden gems buried in the depth of Sherwood forest, away from the traffic of Pines. It’s true we love our local trail centre but we make our own way based on expertise and local insight.

Peak District Rides

With regular trips to the Peak District, Derbyshire, and further afield, you’ll never get board of the ride content. There’s something for everyone… MTB or eMTB, advanced or novice, you’ll find a ride that suits your preferences and riding ability.

Sunday Social

After a long week we love to hit reset before we hit the Monday blues. Our Sunday Social is a one-size-fits-all-ability excursion with elements of single track, fire road and the occasional obstacle. We go at a comfortable pace and leave no one behind.

Family Rides

We’re true to our word, ‘rides for all abilities’. This is your opportunity to introduce your friends and family to the sport we love. Rides are between five and ten miles and stick to establish paths and bridleways.

Excursions

Once a month we take a tour of a neighbouring trail centre or trade routes with another club, somewhere new. Some of our favourites include Cannock Chase and Dalby Forest, in addition to Bike Park Wales and Forest of Dean.

Night Rides

To keep us on our toes and test our reflexes, we occasionally battle the elements under cover of darkness, in true woodsmen style! Not for the faint hearted – the forest comes alive at night!

Beginners’ Rides

Whether you’re new to the trail or a saddle-sore veteran returning to the trail. An introduction or reintroduction to mountain biking is a great way to test your skills before committing to single track.

Themes and Special Events

MTB Outlaws will use just about any excuse to get out in the saddle. We host seasonal themed rides, fund raisers and other events. This year, we’re introducing a history trail series. Join us on Facebook to more information.

DH and Jump parks

While we enjoy the casual rides and the single track, there are speed demons among us who cherish the more aggressive downhill trails and dedicated jump parks. Make contact to learn more.

Ladies only Rides

MTB Outlaws now offer a Ladies only group and women’s Ride Leader. This group had been created to encourage and support women who enjoy or would like to explore mountain biking. Learn more at our Facebook page.

MTB Outlaws Fox Hunt

Join the MTB Outlaws Fox Hunt – a test of wit between the Foxes (regular bikes) and the Hounds (ebikes). The chase begins with a marginal head start – test your nerve, if you can hack it! Join MTBO and get involved… It’s not a race, it’s a hunt!

How it works

Every ride has a designated Ride Leader and, depending on group size, at least one sweeper (a person who hangs back to make sure nobody gets lost or falls behind). For safety, we use radios to communicate between leader and sweeper to ensure we’re moving as one unit and not spreading too far.

Upon arriving at the meeting place (secret locations known only to MTB Outlaws… Not really, see our contact page) the Ride Leader will coordinate riders and ensure all is in order. When you attend your first ride, please make yourself known to the group and the ride leaders (usually the one in the MTB Outlaws jersey shepherding folk around). We ask that you register with MTB Outlaws for safety and security. This must be done before riding.

The Ride Leader will stay at the front on the group. It’s their job to keep pace and navigate. Ride Leaders carry basic first aid and communication to assist our riders in the event of accident or emergency. At the designated start time, the ride will set off, we ride as a group and stay together. Longer rides may have breaks, races may have staging areas, starting points or finish lines. The Sweeper will always be at the rear to ensure the group maintains a safe and sensible distance. Upon completion we return to the start for refreshments and usually a giggle about the trail.
